Celebrating `Braai` Day in Argentina

Yesterday South Africans celebrated `Heritage Day` and many people have also declared it `National Braai Day`. What is a Braai? It is the Afrikaans word for a BBQ or asado. A couple of weeks ago I was approached by a Facebook group called `National Braai Day` and they were looking for a representative in Argentina to participate in a world wide Ex-Pat, light-the-fires day. In other words: Make a fire and braai.

That is exactly what we did at Hostel Tinktinkie! To be honest we never need a second invitation. Meat in Argentina is very good and we love to braai.

Joining us was Ian from England. He arrived at the Hostel on a motor bike and has been travelling for some time in South America.

We gave him a taste of the different cultures and we hope he enjoyed the South African Braai with us.

Happy Spring Day,Argentina!

We have all been waiting for this day! Today we are officially saying goodbye to winter and hello to Spring!

Hostel Tinktinkie is wishing all our friends in Argentina a wonderful spring day and we are looking forward to those lazy summer days!

Remember that we still have places available for the Oktoberfest that is starting next weekend. We are also starting to receive enquiries regarding summer accommodation. Book early for January and February!

Snow on the mountains

Today is exactly 2 days before spring officially starts in Argentina. Guess what? We have snow on the mountains! Yesterday it rained all day and was bitterly cold. Today it is cold but no rain. When we walked outside this morning, we could see the `sierras grandes` or big mountains covered in a blanket of white snow!

How beautiful! It reminds me of 2 years ago. We woke up on Spring day and everything was white. We could even make snow balls! I loved it!

I am not sure what the weather forecast is but I hope it will clear up in time for the long weekend this coming weekend.

If you haven`t booked already, we still have places available: info@tinktinkie.com.

Torneo Argentino de Patín Artístico. Artistic Roller-blading.

I mentioned earlier that a very important sport event is taking place in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita this week. Well, yesterday I went to see how the girls are putting their artistic skills on roller-blades to practise.

It was the first time that I have ever seen something like this and it was so entertaining to watch. What a show they have put on. The competition was stiff and the girls gave their best. The finals will be tomorrow but unfortunately I will not be able to go.

I have taken many photos and if there are people who would like to purchase some of the photos, please contact me on: nelieta@tintkinkie.com

After the rain

It rained a lot yesterday and the night before. This morning when we woke up the air was fresh and clean and all traces of dirt and have been washed away. I can start to smell spring in the air.

I went to photograph the roller-blade competition and on my way I stopped to take some photos of the river that is now flowing at a steady pace. How wonderful to see our river full of water again after the winter.

The Calamuchita Valley is so beautiful and I cannot wait for those warm sunny days to arrive!
