A variety of birds

We always see a lot of different bird species at Hostel Tinktinkie. I must admit that many of the birds I don`t know by name. Over the years I have watched them carefully and many birds come back and make a nest in the same place than the previous year.This year I have seen new birds that I haven`t seen before.

A couple of weeks ago we heard a noise outside and I saw a group of birds in the grass. They were busy with something. I grabbed my camera and tried to sneak up on them.

This was easier said than done because they were very alert and kept on looking. They were definitely busy eating something. I moved closer but two of them flew away.

I fired a couple of shots and eventually they all flew away. We went closer to have a look what they were eating – fruits.

After all of that commotion I still don`t have a name for these birds. If somebody knows, please let me know. I will appreciate it.

We often get visitors at Hostel Tinktinkie that are bird watchers. It is so lovely to be able to live close to nature and to see these beautiful birds. That is where they belong. In the wild and free as a bird.

Autumn is in the air

Yesterday we took a walk next to the river in town after we had a cup of coffee. Autumn is definitely here and you can see the changes everywhere. Somehow I got the feeling that summer doesn`t want to go away just yet and is still hanging on for dear life.

There is still a lot of water in the Santa Rosa river and I know it is still early days but I hope it will stay like that for the whole winter. The days are lovely and warm but there is definitely a bite in the air early morning and in the evenings.

I have a suspicion that this year is going to be a cold winter.

There are no long weekends in May but in June we have a nice break and we are inviting you to make use of our special offer: 3 nights and 1 night free.

Rally Argentina

En mayo llega el Rally Argentina, la fiesta de los fanáticos en 700m del Hostel Tinktinkie!La fecha del miércoles 1 de mayo ya figura en rojo en el calendario, pero además este año, los tuercas ya lo tienen reservado para el inicio de la 33ª edición del Rally Argentina, quinta fecha del Campeonato del Mundo, organizada por el Automóvil Club Argentino y que se desarrollará hasta el sábado 4 en las sierras cordobesas.

Tomarán parte del Rally Argentina las tres clases que integran el torneo mundial: los autos de la clase mayor WRC conocidos como world rally cars, los de la clase WRC 2 (del ex Grupo de Producción y S2000) y la nueva clase WRC 3 (tracción simple). Particular interés cobra la participación del campeón
Sébastien Loeb, quien tiene un programa reducido de apenas cuatro carreras en el año.

Junto con estas tres principales categorías del Rally Mundial, el Rally Argentina como en todas las ediciones, también recibirá la participación de un importante grupo de pilotos locales y regionales que tendrán la posibilidad de inscribirse en cualquiera de las tres clases anteriores o de sumar sus nombres
al listado de los que competirán por llevarse la tercera edición de la Copa ACA.

Este año el Rally Argentina se iniciará el miércoles 1 de Mayo y finalizará el sábado 4 de mayo. Durante esas cuatro jornadas se recorrerán 408 kilómetros divididos en 14 pruebas especiales por los principales valles turísticos de la provincia de Córdoba, entre los que se destacan los tramos largos del primer día en las Sierras Chicas y Punilla, dos nuevos especiales inéditos en el
Valle de Calamuchita y los tradicionales Giulio Césare y El Cóndor en
Traslasierra.

Goodbye Water Tank

It was a really sad day for us at Hostel Tinktinkie when we recently said goodbye to our trusted friend – The Water Tank. Most people won`t understand why this was such an emotional day for me and Andrey. I will explain.

When we started to built the Hostel in 2008, we didn`t have municipal water. The architect, Señor Rojas, brought this tank to help us store water in. It is impossible to built a house without water.

Getting municipal water was a big problem. It was too expensive as we needed to pay for all pipes and labour from the last connection point. Back in 2008 this was costing almost $6,500 pesos. We decided to sink a well and for the first couple of months we had a lot of water. Then draught came in 2009 and the water bed dropped and left is without water.

The only other solution was to buy water from the Fire Brigade and they used to deliver water for us on a weekly basis. This they pumped from the truck into the Water Tank, which we then pumped to the tank on top of the roof. This continued for some months and eventually we got stuck without water because the Fire Brigade didn`t want to bring water to us anymore.

In 2010 Municipal water finally arrived when people from the neighborhood La Rinconada, decided to put money together to lay the pipes. They also got stranded with dry wells and water was becoming a necessity. It was a happy and blessed day when we finally could connect to municipal water! It cost us to connect $500 pesos and we saved a lot of money.

The water tank became a fixture in our garden. We didn`t use it anymore because of the municipal water. Every winter people would arrive at the Hostel, claiming that the water tank is their property and want it back. Some people arrived with a trailer and we always had a lot of problems to keep thieves from taking the tank. Sometimes it involved phoning the architect or threatening to phone the police. They would quickly disappear and we won`t see them again.

On this day, 28 March 2013, a truck arrived and a man claimed that he has the permission from the owner to take the tank. We refused to hand over the tank. Another man arrived and said he was the owner. After a couple of phone calls we eventually established that he was the rightful owner. He thanked us for protecting his property and for looking after it.

The water tank features in many of our photos. We used it as a backdrop against sunset and sunrise photos. We photographed it from all angles. We would often speak about the empty space this tank would leave when gone. Now it is gone and indeed it left an empty space in our hearts and lives. We miss it and luckily we have many photos and fond memories.
