Oktoberfest 2016 in Villa General Belgrano – Argentina.

The new edition of The National Beerfestival or the Oktoberfest (Number 53) will take place from the 30 th of September until the 10th of October 2016. It is a big festival to be enjoyed with friends and family and an unforgettable experience.

Here you can taste the best local beer in a variety of flavours that includes: Mint, Red, Black, Strawberry and Honey to name a few. They come in all sizes and are delicious!

The Oktoberfest in Villa General belgrano is not only about beer. The Oktoberfest has a full program each year with events scheduled for every 30 minutes. Every year people participating in the Oktoberfest, parade through the main street of Villa General Belgrano, in traditional clothing, wagons, dancers, musicians and orchestras. The Oktoberfest is also about food and here you can taste some of the traditional German dishes. One of the favourites is the German sausage as illustrated below in the photo.

Where is the new venue and beer garden located in Villa General Belgrano?

Villa General Belgrano has a new venue this year and it is a little bit away from the city center – 30 blocks from the old venue.

Below you will be able to see where the new venue is on Google Maps and how to get to the venue. If you need information about the venue or how to get there from the bus terminal please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.

The 53 rd edition of the Oktoberfest will take place in a month in Villa General Belgrano and this will be the first year when no Queen or Princesses are elected.

The entrance fee to the Oktoberfest is 200 pesos per person for the first weekend and 300 pesos per person for the second weekend. People living in Villa General Belgrano can go in for free.

The Bus TERMINAL in SANTA ROSA DE CALAMUCHITA – Cordoba.

The bus terminal in the city of Santa Rosa de Calamuchita is located on the corner of Avenida Intendente Angel Llanos and Carlos Gardel. The bus terminal is 3 blocks from the city centre and 2 blocks from the main road, Route 5. This is ideal for a quick exit to the main road and touristy places.

The building has facilities for ticket sales, a restaurant and restrooms. Parking is available in front of the bus terminal for cars. The Municipality of Santa Rosa de Calamuchita has an information counter available for tourists during high season, long weekends and ublic holidays. Backpackers and travellers canleave their luggage at the lockers that is available at the bus terminal. Please ask at the San Juan Mar del Plata office for the keys to the office and for more information.

What makes Playa Miami Santa Rosa de Calamcuhita so popular?

Here you will find a sandy-white stretch of sand that really looks like a beach. Children love to play in the soft sand and to build sand castles. There are many rocks where you can sit and soak up the sun. Argentines love the sun and this is the ideal place to relax and work on your suntan.

The more adventurous and younger generation love the deep water and the high rocks. They climb to the top and jump into the water. The rest, that are not so brave, cheer from the bottom.

Talking about the rest. Did you know that here in the Cordoba Province we have a very popular drink called Fernet. We normally drink it with coke. Well, Fernet and coca is the National drink of Cordoba and when you are at Playa Miami, you will see why I say that.

People sit with chairs and cooler boxes in the water. In one hand they hold a glass with Fernet and Coke and in the other one mate (Argentina tea). No, I am just joking but mate is just as popular.

Where to find Playa Miami Santa Rosa de Calamuchita

Playa Miami is +- 10kms out of Santa Rosa de Calamcuhita. If you visit Hostel Tinktinkie without a car and you want to visit Playa Miami then it is not a problem. Local buses, Pajaro Blanco, leaves from the bus terminal in Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, every 30 minutes. They drop you off right in front of the entrance.

If you have your own transport then it is better but parking could be a problem and most of the time you have to park next to the road. It is safe and nothing will happen to your car.

Oktoberfest 2013 opening in VGB

Oktoberfest 2013 in Villa General Belgrano opened yesterday. Hostel Tinktinkie was there to join in the action. The first weekend is normally more quiet than the second weekend but it is nevertheless jam-packed with events. The Beer garden opened at 11am but main events started at 5pm.

The first thing we did was to take a walk through the beer garden to admire all the beautful beer mugs (chops) and hats. Remember that you will need to buy your own chop because they don`t give you beer in a glass. Our noses led us to the food stalls and that is where we saw all the traditional German food like Bratwurst and the most delicious cakes. We decided to go and eat something before the events started.

A man was lying with his head on the table and he was obviously very tired. In front of him was an empty beer glass. Two guys compared the size of their bare stomachs and their friends were roaring with laughter. The stage looked beautiful this year and I can see that they have done a lot to improve the Beer Garden this year. It looked pretty.

While we were enjoying a delicious pizza in one of the restaurants the Orquesta Brisas Inmigrantes entertained the crowds but luckily we were just in time for the dancing group Ballet Immer Truff from la Pampa that is representing Germany.

They were really good and I loved the colorful costumes. A guy in the audience was entertaining everybody but his friends quickly led him back to his seat when he started to disturb the peace of others.

On out way back we saw a group of guys posing in Lederhosen and a pretty-looking popcorn machine with the name “La Catalina”. I will post photos of the other events in another blog. In other words….to be continued.

Winter 2013

The last couple of days have been incredibly cold. Many people have complained that it wasn`t really winter but then it hit us full in the face. Not surprising because we are in the middle of winter and 21 July marked the middle of winter in Argentina.

Last night it was so cold and water that was standing in a bucket outside froze solid. I think it was -4 or -5 last night. This morning when I woke up I could see a thin layer of snow on the big mountains or “Sierras Grandes”. I am sure people climbing up to Champaqui will find snow there.

We were very lucky last year because we missed most of the winter in Argentina. We were in Russia during that time. This winter I definitely feel the cold. Winter months are problematic because pipes froze and burst. Two years a go we had to insulate some of the pipes because they split open. That is one of the reasons why I don`t like plastic pipes. They are a lot cheaper but not durable like galvanized pipes for example. Guess who worked in the steel industry for a long time!

The Winter School holidays in Argentina will end soon and we had people from Buenos Aires at the Hostel. Today we are expecting a family, also from Buenos Aires. We are looking forward to be meeting new people and to see the winter through. In South Africa we always say that when you have a very cold winter, then you can expect to have a very good summer. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
